10 years ago you may have been able to get the domain name that you wanted. These days, unless you are willing to a several thousand dollars you are not going to get anywhere close to what would be considered a premium domain name. That is why you need to get creative. We have several tools that will do that for you all in the same place.
1. http://www.domainideabox.com/index.php -This is my favorite. you type in your word or words and the use a selector that will add modifiers to your main phrase depending on what you are going for. If you type in “artist” and select the business modifier it will spit our a list that looks like this
artistAccounting.com
artistAdvertise.com
artistAdvertising.com
artistBusinessPlan.com
artistCEO.com
artistConsultant.com
artistConsultants.com
artistConsulting.com
artistCustomerService.com
artisteCommerce.com
Only much longer. After you get your list of possible domains, copy the text and head to godaddy.com’s bulk register feature. paste them into the field to see which ones are available. It is the quickest way to find a great domain.
2. http://www.makewords.com/ – Make word is the perfect tool if you are looking for a one word made up jibberish name to brand yourself. Is pick a registrar and hit search. It comes up with names like “parowi.com” and “nondysca.com”. It sounds stupid until you think about flickr, twitter, and other mentionables. It tells you right away which domains are available, and allows you to alter them. It looks like a very powerful tool with more features than ideabox, but a little less simplified.
3. dotster.com is another tool that does something similar to idea box except it has a few more selectables, the ability to select modifiers is more enhanced, but I prefer the interface of ideabox.
There are more but if you cannot find a name using those three, you should not have one. It is worth mentioning that I have not put an expired domain checker on the list. These can be a great source as well.
Anyone looking to double check what their SEO consulting firm is doing or just monitor their own results should be monitoring their backlink profile. This is by far the most important part of building a brand for your website. The more quality backlinks you have the better. Don’t obsess over this to much. It is not uncommon for many people to spend more time checking their rankings and backlink’s thank getting new ones.
1. Yahoo Site Explorer – By far the most accurately updates source for this is Yahoo. updating backlink profiles for the public to see is something that Google does not want to do, or is trying to do. Yahoo does a great job at it. use their tool.
Here are two more just for reference but yahoo site explorer is where the best tools pull their data from anyways.
2. Domain Pop
3. Market Leap
